Becontree: the cottage estate behind most Dagenham homes
A large share of Barking and Dagenham was built in a single programme. Between 1921 and 1935 the London County Council built the Becontree estate across Dagenham, Barking and Ilford, and when it was complete around 100,000 people lived there.
